Warren Schmidt Obituary
Warren M. Schmidt
November 14, 1931 - June 20, 2025
Warren M. Schmidt, "almost 94 years old," passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love of his family. Born in West Bend, Wisconsin, to a German-American family, Warren was a man of integrity and compassion and a hero to his family.
His life's purpose was protecting and caring for those he loved. He not only loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters, he enjoyed them. Some of his happiest moments were giving tractor rides to kids or grandkids on the 80 acres of farmland where he resided for 50 years with adoring dogs close beside him. He was a terrible farmer, who laughed with his farming neighbors at his mistakes, and an excellent attorney, who never signed a document without reading every word.
Warren dedicated his life to public service, notably as an Assistant Attorney General serving the State of Wisconsin with integrity and distinction for 32 years. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, sharing his love of music as part of the Air Force Band while stationed in Puerto Rico during the Korean War. This passion for music continued throughout his life as well as his zeal for a spirited game of sheepshead.
Warren's best friend and life partner of 66 years was his wife, Peggy (née Wolf). He is also survived by: his children Rebecca (Brad), Kristy (Gary), and Daniel (Melanie); cherished grandchildren Claire (Kory), Drew (Alecia), JD, Ahnika, and Mikayla; beloved great-granddaughters Lena and Murphy; and close nephew Bob (Marilyn).
Warren can never be replaced in the hearts of those that knew, loved, and admired him. He lives on in our memories and the way we live our lives in honor of his example.
A celebration of Warren's life will be held at the Oakwood Village- Prairie Ridge, Tree of Life Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, on Monday, June 30, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Warren's honor may be made to Oakwood Village Foundation or Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.
