Duane Blauer Obituary

Duane Blauer

Sept. 4, 1958 - Aug. 20, 2024

DECLO – Duane Jay Blauer, age 65, of Declo, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, of an aggressive brain tumor. He was a beloved papa, father, husband, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Duane was born September 4, 1958, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Willes and Norene (Blacker) Blauer. Duane grew up on a farm and was blessed enough to be able to raise his family on a farm. Duane instilled the values of hard work and doing your best in his children.

He began farming right out of high school and continued throughout the rest of his life. He loved growing a good crop. He grew beets, beans, and grain. He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for farming. He was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for the outdoors.

Duane met the love of his life, Amy Hamblen, in sixth grade. They dated in their junior and senior years in high school. After they graduated from Burley High School, they were married in the Ogden Utah Temple on June 10, 1976. Duane was blessed with three children, Sarah in 1977, Matthew in 1980, and Emily in 1983.

Family was everything to Duane. From helping coach his son's baseball teams, to spending hours at dance recitals and competitions, Duane was always involved with his children's activities. You could always find Duane in the bleachers watching his grandkids play baseball, football, and basketball, as well as show goats and turkeys at the fair. He was their greatest fan.

Hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling were Duane's passions, and he eagerly taught his kids and grandkids these passions. Many days were spent at elk camp with the grandkids, and many memories were made that they will treasure forever. He enjoyed steelhead fishing with his son, son-in-law, and friends, and was a league member for golf and bowling.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a firm belief in his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and the temple. He held numerous callings. He served as Cubmaster, Sunday school teacher, Young Men President, and Elders Quorum President. Duane also served as first counselor in two bishoprics, and as a high councilor and a ministering brother. He enjoyed his time helping his community in these roles.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Amy; his children: Sarah (Cody) Somsen, Matt (Cheyann) Blauer, Emily (Patrick) Misner; his grandchildren: Jenicka (Leo) Martinez, Jaren (Brett) Hess, Ty Blauer, Taylon Somsen, Brooklin Somsen, Jaxton Somsen, Gatlin Somsen, Gavin Misner, Elliot Misner; great-grandchildren: Addie Martinez, Ariat Somsen, Hadley Hess, Lucas Martinez; his brothers: Craig (Lori) Blauer, Dwight (Naomi) Blauer, Doug (Kerina) Blauer, and Daren (Cheryl) Blauer; sister, Debbie (Dan) Gilbert; sister-in-law, Cheryl Blauer; and mother-in-law, Jean Hamblen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dan Blauer; and his grandparents.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Declo Stake Center, located at 213 W. Main Street, in Declo. Burial will follow at Declo Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley, and from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, at the church.
