Fred Schaer Obituary

Fred Paul Schaer

July 14, 1938 - April 24, 2025

Fred Paul Schaer was born on July 14, 1938, to John and Winnifred Schaer on the family farm near Castleford, Idaho, the youngest of three boys. Fred passed away on April 24, 2025, at the age of 86.

Fred lost his father at age three and grew up fast helping his brothers on the family farm. After graduating from Castleford High School in 1956, he farmed with his brother John in Terreton, Idaho. In 1960, Fred began his service in the US Army as a Radio Repairman stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. In 1965, he married Sandra Scott and spent 58 wonderful years together. In 1974, Fred's only son Charles was born.

Throughout his life, Fred farmed, raised cattle, hauled hay, worked in a bean warehouse maintaining bean mills, and worked at Norco Windows. He served nine years on the Castleford School Board, some of those years as the Chairman. Fred finally retired from farming at the age of 80, but still found a way to check cows and help out where he could. He also enjoyed trips to the Oregon Coast, photography, woodworking, and going over to the Corner Merc in Castleford for lunch.

Fred was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Sandy; his three brothers; and his sisters-in-law. He is survived by his son Charles; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

Charles would like to thank the staff of Hospice Visions and the staff of Twin Falls Care Center for taking excellent care of Fred. Charles would also like to thank the Lewis family (John, Viki, Wyatt, and John Wayne), the Jones family (Ronnie and Susan), and the Burkhalter family (Rene and Christy) for their help and being wonderful friends. Dad thought the world of you. To Gay Park, Mel Martin, and Sharon Slagel, Dad always looked forward to visiting with you and thought the world of you too. To Pastor Casey Knudson, Dad really enjoyed your visits, thank you for everything. To Sherry Wiggins, thank you for always having a seat waiting for Dad. To Gary and Barbara Blick, Dad always spoke very highly of you and cherished your friendship. Per Fred's wishes, there will be no service.
