Jackie Martin Obituary

Jackie Martin

November 4, 1934 - October 12, 2024

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Jackie Martin on October 12, 2024.

She's survived by her husband, William Martin, and after 72 years of marriage, Bill was comforted by his prayer that he could release her care to God. Jackie is also survived by her daughter, Laura Walton; and her grandchildren: Izaak Walton, Benjamin Walton, Holly Hoss, Janna Battenfield and Heather McKeown. Her children: Debra Martin and William "Beau" Martin, Jr. preceded her in death, and we trust that Jackie is home with her children.

Jackie was born November 4, 1934, in St John, KS. She started out as a survivor from the great Dustbowl migration and she was raised in Texas and Idaho. No doubt her hardy upbringing helped her develop the mettle and character she needed to live with Bill for 72 years.

Jackie loved flowers but she was never a wallflower. She met Bill in the horn section in the High School Band. She graduated from Paul High School as a Salutatorian in 1951 and married Bill. Debra was born a full 12 months later. She welcomed Beau and Laura in 1959 and 1960.

Jackie put her book smarts and her gracious personality to work for her and had positions in banking and School Librarian. But her real love was travel. Jackie's Law commanded that at home you could complain but on a trip no griping was allowed. This love of adventure led to living overseas.

From 1966 through 1970, Bill worked with the Department of Defense and the family lived in Japan, Italy and Germany. Jackie landed her most glamorous position with Max Factor in Japan. She was the face of Bazazoo, the campaign of the 60s! Imagine Jackie stepping out of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. with the short skirts, the Go-Go boots and flawless makeup. Next stop was Brindisi, Italy which found Jackie dodging lizards and popping off to Rome for the weekend. We weren't kidding about the man from U.N.C.L.E. The next stop was Germany which included a visit to Check Point Charlie. Jackie loved the ease of travel in

Europe and London and its theater district were her favorite destinations.

The family moved back to Paul, ID and settled on the farm to finish raising the family. Jackie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She still kept up with her love of music. She ditched her horn and took up the drums. You could catch Jackie beating her pink pearl drum set any weekend at the Elks Club making her party money. She kept her sense of adventure and was always open to trying new cuisine and fashion.

Gracious is the word that best describes Jackie in all her interactions and she was kind until the end. She didn't like losing independence but she found a way to enjoy pampering. Special thanks to Lacey Coelho for the extra love and care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Paul Community Church. Viewing for family and friends will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church. Services will conclude with burial at the Paul Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.

Bill and family: I'm so sorry to hear of Jackie's passing. She was such a beautiful, bubbly, fun, witty, adventurous, and generous lady. She was so good to my mom, her Aunt Edith, and I always appreciated that so much. I just had surgery and cannot travel at this time, and I'm so sorry to miss her service. I'm sure it will be a wonderful tribute to a life well-lived. I send my deepest condolences and prayers for healing. Carol Felts (cousin)
