Lawrence J. Haug
1928-2021
Holladay, UT-Lawrence J. Haug passed away Saturday, April 10 with his loving wife Mary Lee by his side. Born in Lakewood, Ohio on August 13, 1928 to Christian and Nora Haug. Graduated from Ohio State University in 1951 with a geology degree. Served two years in the U.S Army as a cartographer. Married Marilyn Kastien with whom he had four wonderful children. Later divorced. Employed by Kennecott Utah Copper for 32 years. Retired early as Manager of Leaching to work on his golf swing. Despite losing sight in one eye in a mining accident in his 20's he still excelled at golf, skiing and ice skating. It could be argued that smoking, drinking, trips to Hawaii and later Wendover were Larry's favorite hobbies of all. He was a clever wordsmith and wrote humorous poetry for Utah Copper and Mountain View golf functions.
In Larry's own words, "On September 7, 1982, I married the sweetest girl in town, Mary Lee Latham." The two spent the next 38 years together, the last four devoted to sparring over politics.
Survived by his wife Mary Lee; children Lynn, Mark (Fran), Chris (Barb), John (Heidi) Haug, Amy (Roger) Knox, Andrea (Shannon) Rich; grandchildren Oliver and Maya Haug, Savannah Smith, Cameron Knox, Jake, Nick and Reilly Rush, Leo Rich and great grandchild Lucy Jensen, brother-in-law Jim Latham and sister-in-law Janet Latham.
At Larry's request no services will be held. At the family's request, please have a toast in Sir Lawrence's honor!
