Maria Alcala Obituary
Maria Del Carmen Alcala
January 13, 1951 - February 6, 2025
It is with profound sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom, grandmother, sister and aunt and friend. Carmen passed away in Pocatello ID on February 6, 2025, from injuries sustained in a car accident. She was incredibly kind, loving, generous, and strong. We will all miss her profoundly.
Carmen was born on January 13, 1951, to Juana and Leonides Nunez in El Zapotillo, Jalisco MX. She was welcomed by her three brothers and two sisters. She was loved and adored by her siblings and parents. She was soon joined by her younger brother to complete the family. Her childhood was centered in their family's Catholic faith. She was very close to her parents and especially her mom her entire life. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse in the small ranching town she grew up in. She later attended seamstress school. Sewing came very naturally to her, she altered, made clothes, and could sew anything. Her favorite job was working at a local fabric store. She would get to see all the new fabric, lace, and buttons that came in for her next project. She would later find great joy in making clothes for her children.
In December of 1972, she married Jose Alcala. That same month they immigrated to the United States of America and began their lifelong marriage of 52 years. The adventurous couple moved to Hansen, ID where they lived for a short time. During this period, their oldest daughter Belia was born. They soon moved to Murtaugh, ID. In Murtaugh their second daughter Carmen was born followed by their son Jose. Carmen remained a resident of Murtaugh for the remainder of her life. She had a lot of gratitude for many incredibly generous new friends and neighbors she met that helped her and her young family. Help came in the way of rides to Twin Falls to attend church on Sundays, meals, helping her learn all kinds of things as life was very different from her life in Mexico. She then shared all she had learned with anyone she encountered that could use the same help she received at one time. Sharing all that she had with others.
Carmen loved caring for her young family and home. Everyone and everything needed to be clean. Her children brought her so much joy. It was very important to her and Jose that her children spend time with the family that lived in Mexico. For many summers she would take her three young children back to Mexico to spend time with family and giving them an opportunity to experience many of the things she enjoyed. Her sewing skills soon became a daily thing for her. After a trip to Twin Falls and fabric in hand she was set to make clothes for next month. She loved to sew clothes for her children and rarely with a pattern, dresses may have been her favorite thing to sew. Once her children were older, she went on to work part-time for the Murtaugh School District. She made many treasured friends there. She later worked at McCains in Burley, ID, where she eventually retired and formed many special friendships.
She was a member of St. Edward Catholic church for the past 30 years and prior to that, the Guadalupe Church in Twin Falls, ID. Making many lifelong friends along the way.
She enjoyed sewing, shopping, cooking, baking, gardening, and daily walks. She loved to travel and visit family when possible. She shared many travel adventures with her family. She would always be the first to pack her suitcase. When she was blessed with grandchildren, she cherished any time she could spend with them. Babysitting quickly evolved into her preferred activity. The first four adventurous and loving grandchildren were boys so off she and Jose went to t-ball games, moto cross, basketball games and anything that she would be invited to. Then came her loving granddaughters, and the activities changed a bit, babysitting continued but she was now attending dance, soccer, and golf activities. She was very proud of all of them. If there was some time in between she and Jose would enjoy some time in Jackpot and an occasional trip to Wendover. She made many friends there as well.
She is survived by her loving and grieving husband Jose, daughter Belia [Shane] Stastny and their daughters Ellie and Alli Stastny, her daughter Carmen Alcala all of Murtaugh, ID. Her grandchildren Ezekiel, Joshua [Dani] great granddaughter Avery Alcala and Silas Robinson, Alexander and Tucker Alcala. Along with her loving brothers and their families Ramon, Jose, Rafael and Salvador Nunez. Her dear sister Eladia Nunez and her family. Her extended Alcala family and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. Preceded in death by her beloved son Jose Alcala and beloved grandson Brice A. Wojcik, her parents and sister.
A vigil with a rosary and viewing to follow will be held Monday February 17, 2025, at 6pm at Reynolds Funeral Home in Twin Falls, ID. Her funeral Mass will be Tuesday February 18, 2025, at 10 am at St Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, there will also be a rosary prior to the mass at 9:30.
Though our hearts are breaking with sorrow, we will cherish our memories and our love for our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her love for us will forever live in our hearts and the lives of she touched. We are eternally grateful for the gift of her life and will cherish the time we had with her.
Rest in peace. You will be forever missed and forever remembered.
