Marion Harp Obituary

Marion Robert "Bob" Harp

January 21, 1938 - July 16, 2024

BUHL - Marion Robert "Bob" Harp, 86, of Buhl, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 16, 2024. He was born on January 21, 1938, to Howard and Nadine Harp in Santa Maria, California. Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a good and faithful servant.

Bob graduated from Arroyo Grande Union High School in 1957, while also working at the Santa Barbara News Press in Lompoc, California, delivering newspapers. He joined the Army Reserves at Camp Roberts starting his military service with basic training at Fort Ord, California, and completing that service with an honorable discharge.

Bob held numerous jobs in the late 50's in California, including truck driving under the teamsters union and working with AB Hansen Stables, which ran horses in the sulky racing circuit throughout the East coast. He moved to Idaho in the early 60's and met the love of his life, Dolores Lucille Cobb, who came with a package of five bonus children. They were married on April 7, 1967, and added two more children several years later. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple, for time and all eternity, on April 6, 1979.

Bob worked in the late 60's into the early 70's at Green Giant on the weekends operating a corn picker, while working full time on the kill floor at Independent Meat Company as a butcher for over twenty years. He had a great passion for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and enjoying nature, and when younger in California, he was an avid scuba diver. He had such an adventurous nature creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren. We looked forward to going with Mom and Dad on yearly camping trips, deer hunting trips, rifle range target shooting, Sunday after-church drives wandering along country roads, and many, many fishing hole forays.

Bob was affectionately known by the title of "Poppy" by all the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all their friends.

Our memories we cherish of our time spent with him. He will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Dolores Lucille Harp; daughter, Annette (Jack) McRoberts; and sons-in-law, Gary Stephen Roach and Johnny Brent Harral.

He is survived by his daughters, Christi Harp, Stephanie (Skip) Leitch, Suzanne Harral, Denise (Garry) Lawson, and Dorita Roach; son, Larry (Colleen) Harp; 25 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren .

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Chardonnay Assisted Living and the staff of Heritage Home Health Hospice for their kind and loving care of our father.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 501 Main Street, Buhl. Burial will conclude with Military Honors at the West End Cemetery, 1574 E Elm St, Buhl.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Bob's memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
