Rose Cardiel Obituary

Rose Cardiel

November 30, 1955 - April 6, 2025

Alma Rosa "Rose" Martinez Cardiel was born on November 30, 1955, to Jose and Zenaida Martinez in Edinburg, Texas. Her parents moved to Rupert, ID., in 1960. As the middle child of 12, Rose cared for her younger siblings, making them dinner, making sure they finished their homework, and getting them to bed, often staying up until after midnight when their dad arrived home from work. Even at a young age, she was the glue that bonded her family together.

Rose graduated from Minico High School in 1975 and moved to Moscow, ID., to attend the University of Idaho. After a year of college, she returned home and began working for the Idaho Migrant Council. While employed there, she met the love of her life, Javier Cardiel. Rose often told the story about when they met and how nervous he made her feel. Since they'd never spoken, she was caught off-guard when he walked over and asked how she was doing. In her rush to avoid his gaze, she snatched up a newspaper and only later realized she was holding it upside down. Mortified, she was grateful that Javier never said a word about it, whether or not he noticed. They began dating shortly thereafter and dated for five years before marrying in 1982.

Rose became a cosmetologist in 1984 and was the co-owner of a beauty salon in Rupert. A year later, she stopped doing hair due to complications with her first pregnancy. She gave birth to her son, Marcco, in July 1985. Three years later, their daughter, Venessa joined the family. They spent most of the kids' early years in Burley, ID., where Rose was a dedicated wife and mother, making sure her family's needs were met while still finding time for her passion of bodybuilding.

Her children were her joy, and Rose spent every moment with them. While working with the PTA, she merged two of her loves: her kids and photography. She became fondly known at Burley JH as "The Picture Lady," photographing the students and staff, and even displaying her work. She always had a camera (or cell phone) ready to take photos of her life and surroundings. She would regularly text loved one's pictures of clouds, asking, "What do you see?" and often revealed that she saw an angel.

Rose took great comfort in her faith, reading her bible and devotionals daily. She extended Christian love to friends and family, regularly sending them messages containing scriptures and prayers. Her door was always open and she was always available for a chat, no matter what time of day. Rose would go out of her way to help anyone in need, simply because she believed it was the right thing to do.

In 2000, Rose and her family moved to Boise, ID., where she remained until her passing on April 6th, 2025. Rose remained the glue of the family, sending kind words and prayers. Rose is survived by her husband, two children, and a large extended family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family asks that instead of flowers, donations to als.org in Rose's name be given.

I was so sad to learn of Rose's illness and even sadder to hear of her death. I was unable to travel to the memorial service but thoughts of her are ever present. Rose was an incredible woman of faith. Her love of God made her a powerful prayer warrior who influenced the lives of more people than we will ever know about. We met at Calvary Chapel Boise where she was a much beloved member of the prayer team always ready with a big hug, huge smile and words of encouragement. She embodied the Holy Spirit, sacrificing so much for her family. Faithful no matter what. Loving desperately. Rose was an incredible role model, and I pray now, that all those who knew and loved her will be comforted by Jesus--the God of all comfort, mercy and grace. I know she is with Him now, praising God in the throneroom of Heaven, praying that all those she left behind will join her there someday. My prayers continue to be with you all. I know her memory will forever be a blessing.
