Allie Ross Obituary

Mrs. Allie Mae Shannon Ross, 101, transitioned from this earthly labor to her eternal heavenly reward on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Mrs. Ross was born December 6, 1923 in Dundee, Mississippi, a daughter of Edward and Nicey Connors Shannon. She was a 1941 graduate of Clarksdale High School in Dundee, MS. In 1945, she married the late Albert Ross and relocated to Youngstown in 1950, and to this union three children were born. Allie and Albert were happily married for 70 years. Allie Mae had been employed in the maintenance department with Youngstown City Schools for 12 years, retiring June 1, 1993. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church since 1951, and was active in many of their ministries, namely, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Senior Choir, No. II Usher Ministry, Mission Ministry, Pastor's Aide, and the Altar Guild. Needless to say, she was on the battlefield for her Lord. Allie enjoyed singing, fishing and traveling to her family reunions. She often said that her devoted daughter and son took good care of their mother, as well as her grandchildren who all played a part in her care as she got older. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life and legacy, two children, Mary Jean Vines, and Michael Ross Sr.; grandchildren, Michelle, Tyrell, Michael Jr., Maurice Rashad, Marquan and Tyree; great grandchildren, Ce'Yanni, Joel, Tiana, Josh, A J, Micah, Mariah and Jasmi; great great grandchildren, Christian, Channel and E'Zaria; nephew-in-law, Larry Arthur Jones; niece-in-law Rita Riddle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Meeting her at Heaven's Gate were her parents; husband, Albert who passed away April 5, 1999; her son, Albert Lavell Ross; grandchildren, Kim Thomas, Marcus Patmon, Amerah and Iris; nephews, Charles Mills and Antwon "Tony" Mills, Lee Henry Morris; two brothers, Early and Jefferson Shannon; five sisters, Clara Munn, Hester Draper, Ester Brown, Annie Kilpatrick and Clementine Mills. Visitation will be Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44505. A Celebration of a Life well lived will follow at 10:00 a.m. The family entrusted their loved one to the ministry of comfort and dignity to L. E.
