Barbara J. McCullough

Barbara J. McCullough, 87, of Sharon, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while in hospice care at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Barb was born on November 24, 1937, the daughter of Anthony and Vera (Sereday) Kweder of Sharon. A 1955 graduate of Sharon High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1959. With a lifelong passion for teaching young children, Barb began her career at Musser Elementary School in Sharon before joining the Head Start program with Warren City Schools. She later served as a Parent Teacher Resource Specialist and eventually returned to the classroom to teach kindergarten. After 30 years of dedicated service, she retired from Warren City Schools. Barb was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon where she was active in the Presbyterian Women's organization. She also participated as an Elder and served on the Memorial Committee. Reading, collecting Caldecott Award winning children's books, and walking in Buhl Park with her dog(s) were activities Barb enjoyed. She will be lovingly remembered for her thoughtful tradition of secretly sending cards from Santa, the Easter Bunny and other figures loved by children to their amazement and wonder over the years, especially her nieces and nephews. Her beloved husband of 64 years, Edward McCullough whom she married on June 24, 1961, survives, along with her son Kevin McCullough (Jody) of Hummelstown, PA, and daughter Kimberly McCullough of Virginia Beach, VA. In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her brothers, David and Keith Kweder. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Buhl Park or the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Glenn Hink officiating.
