Upon retiring from the Navy, David continued to apply his engineering skills at General Motors, where he dedicated many years before retiring.

His wisdom and stories will be deeply missed by his son, David E. First, and daughter-in-law, Barb Dewees, as well as his loving daughter, Jaime and long time friend and ex-wife, Trisha Lovas. . David's legacy is one of unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his interests. He approached life with a quiet strength and a gentle heart, always ready to lend an ear or share a word of advice. He also had no problem with telling you his opinions and if you didn't like it he would tell ya to F OFF. His absence will be felt by all who knew him, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those he left behind.
