Struthers - Edward J. Schenk, Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Burton Health Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.
Edward, known by his family and friends as "Ed," was born September 15, 1943, in Youngstown, OH, a son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Lasko) Schenk.
He graduated from The Rayen School and was a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley.
Ed served in the U.S. Navy. After his time in the service, Ed returned to the Youngstown area.
He was a cabinet maker by trade and owned and operated the Kitchen Mechanic for 30+ years
Ed was a member of the Gideon International and Rush Church in Boardman. He and his wife were involved with Evangelical Street ministry. Ed was a member of the Republican National Committee.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, boating on the Mahoning River, and when he was younger, hunting.
Ed is survived by two children, Eric E. (Lisa) Schenk of Lowellville, OH and Heidi A. (Todd) Dunlap of Campbell, OH; three grandsons, Zachary Schenk and Zane Schenk both of Lowellville, OH and Connor Dunlap of Campbell, OH; his significant other, Carol S. Pipoly of Struthers, OH; and a sister, Paula Clark of Mineral Ridge, OH.
Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, the former Beverly J. Hubler, whom he married on June 4, 1966, and died June 1, 2019.
Family and friends may call on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Rush Church, 5245 Glenwood Avenue in Boardman. There will be a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend James Barton officiating. Interment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy and Ellsworth V.F.W. Post 109.
The family is requesting that material tributes take the form of contributions to Rush Church, 5245 Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, OH 44512 in memory of Ed.
