Elois Carwell Herns, 86
CAMPBELL Elois Carwell Herns, 86, transitioned from time to eternity on Monday, October 13, 2025, in the comfort of her home.
She was born February 19, 1939, in Vada Georgia, the eldest child of CJ and Annie Lee Rhymes Carwell. The family moved from Georgia to Ohio in December 1951, settling in Campbell. Elois matriculated through Campbell City Schools, graduating in 1957.
She married the love of her life, Paul Herns, on August 16, 1958.
Elois was involved in many aspects of her community, including the local and regional PTA, the City's Health Department, and serving as a representative on MYCAP. In the 1970's and 80's, she was one of the founding members of the Campbell Girls and Women's Softball League. She also worked with the spiritual leaders of the community as a member of the Campbell Ecumenical Council of Churches.
Elois was an avid gardener, a skill developed from her parents. Everyone knew her for her expansive backyard garden, filled with greens, beans, peas, tomatoes, squash, corn, melons, and those famous sweet potatoes, encircled by various varieties of fruit trees and beautiful flowers.
She was a member of the Greater Liberty Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School Instructor, Youth Director, and on the Usher Board, as well as in the choir. She was also active in the Eastern Ohio Baptist Association for many years.
She leaves to continue her legacy, her children, Genia Lee, Rev. Glynis Ann, and Glennrick Neil (Kimberly) Herns; grandchildren,Rieon, Rhea, Rachael, and Daniel Robert Herns; a great-grandson, Riley B. Herns; a sister-in-law,Laura Carwell of Texas, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Elois was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Curtis and Larry Neil Carwell, and her husband, Paul.
Services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 at 10:00am at the Wasko Funeral Home, Campbell Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, October 16,2025 from 4:30-7:00pm, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Andrews, DO and his staff, as well as Buckeye Hospice nurses, STNA's and staff for their loving care of Elois over the past two years
Elois will be laid to rest beside her husband at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
