Gene "Pap" Claar

Gene "Pap" Claar, 88, of Niles, formerly of Lilly, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday April 6, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Joseph's Warren Hospital. He was born January 26, 1937 in Lilly, Pennsylvania the son of Chalmer and Ester Carruthers Claar. Gene moved to Ohio to work at General Motors Lordstown where he retired, enjoyed NASCAR, avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, being involved with Niles Youth League Baseball, spending time with family, and receiving Three Musketeers Candy Bars from his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his wife Donna Rickens Claar whom he married April 11, 1959, a son Rick(Darlene) Claar, two daughters Sharon(Russell) Jones, and Cindy(Christopher) Clementi, grandchildren, Rick II(Kayla) Claar, Jeff(Keelyn) Claar, Eric(Jessica) Jones, Breanna(Nick) Jones, Alex(Emma) Clementi, Jullianna Clementi, Nico(Elle)Clementi, and Gabriella(Andrew) Miller, great-grandchildren, Declan, Brynn, Ricky III, and Rayah Claar, Emerson and Evelyn Jones, and Charlotte Kohuth, and two sisters Janice Minielli and Marilyn Claar. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sandra Lynn Claar, five brothers, Donald Claar, Francis Claar, Ray Claar, Kenneth Claar, and Chalmer Claar, and four sisters, Joan, Carol, Mary Ilene and Karen. Friends may call Thursday from 3:00PM until the time of the 5:00PM funeral service at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
