Ivan Jackson Obituary

Ivan Jackson, age 67, a resident of Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio, peacefully departed this life on August 12, 2025, at the Louis Stokes Veterans Medical Center. He was the beloved son of Mary Jackson Grace and McCalter Jackson Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. Ivan was an active member of Gethsemane Baptist Church under the direction of James Mass. He was a student at Chaney High School, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional basketball player before transferring to South High School to further pursue his passion for the sport, graduating in 1976. Shortly after completing his studies, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and later attended Imperial Valley College in El Centro, California, where he earned both his Associate's and Bachelor's degrees. Eager for independence from a young age, Ivan began his career selling Ginsu Knives and Fuller Brush products door-to-door. Throughout his professional journey, he was employed at Grife Brothers Corp., Craft Maid Outlet, Wade Park Veterans Hospital, Cleveland Browns Stadium, Roto-Rooter, Chuck's Recycling Center, and various handyman services. In his early years, he was affectionately known as Tuley, often engaging in foot races with his older brothers, despite rarely winning. As he grew older, he came to be known as Stone, a name that many still remember him by. An avid sports enthusiast, Ivan passionately supported the Browns, Cavaliers, and Guardians. He cherished family gatherings, particularly barbecues, always requesting hot dogs to be grilled. One of his prized possessions was a short brown Corinthian leather jacket that he wore with pride. Ivan frequently expressed his gratitude with the phrase, "Ain't GOD good." Music played an important role in his life, with favorites including Marvin Gaye and Gerald Levert. Family gatherings were often accompanied by spirited games of Spades and Tunk. Ivan fondly remembered the time he participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge, humorously saying, "I did not come over here to get wet, now who is going to pay the $10 donation?" He was a reliable presence for his family, visiting loved ones in hospitals every day without fail. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him. Ivan leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by his children: Kia Buggs, Brandi Buggs, Ivan Buggs, Adrianne Huff, Kalyn Huff, Jon-Erik Huff, Danielle Crafter, ShaNae Jackson, and Anjelica Jackson. He is also survived by his siblings: McCalter Jackson Jr. (Stephanie), Bernard Jackson (Denise), Lovie Brown, and Brenda Kimble (Malcolm). His legacy continues with 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also remembered fondly by his best friend, Dwaiyne Talley, and his God-daughter Dana Talley. A Memorial will take place Friday, October 3, 2025 beginning at 1:30pm at Wick Park Pavilion, 260 Park Ave, Youngstown, OH 44504 Arrangements by Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S. Silvat, Inc.
