YOUNGSTOWN - John J. Mikovich, 93, beloved Dad and Papa, passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, July 16, 2024, at Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
John was born October 1, 1930, in Youngstown, a son of the late Michael F. Mikovich and Catherine A. Yendrich Mikovich Lyons. He lived in the area for most of his life, though he also spent time in Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina.
He was a 1948 graduate of The Rayen School, where he met the love of his life, Doris M. Napolitan. They were married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown on July 8, 1950. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage until Doris passed away on June 5, 2017.
John worked as a machine operator and truck driver for Youngstown Building Material (YBM) for 38 years before retiring in 1990.
John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Mikovich was a member of St. Brendan Church in Youngstown and was also a member of Teamsters #377.
He enjoyed watching golf, working word search puzzles and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his six children, Shirley (Fred) Merlo of Austintown, Donna (Mike) O'Neil of Austintown, Gary Mikovich, Mark (Debi) Mikovich of Fort Myers, FL., Joel (Kristen) Mikovich of Mt. Holly, NC., and Alan (Michele) Mikovich of Austintown; 14 precious grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
John was preceded in death by his son, John Mikovich Jr., his brother, Michael, sister, Barbara and step-father, Robert Lyons.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July, 24, 2024, at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan Church 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where John will be laid to rest beside his treasured wife.
John's family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Brendan Church Food Pantry or Hospice of the Valley in John's memory.
The Mikovich family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of Hospice of The Valley for their kindness shown and compassionate care given to John and his family.
