Michael J. Banas

Michael "Mick" J. Banas, 76, of S. Pymatuning Twp., passed away surrounded by family late Wednesday evening, September 17, 2025, while under hospice care at his home. Mr. Banas was born June 16, 1949, in Sharon, a son of the late Michael and Catherine (Kubyako) Banas, and graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1967. A man of many skills and talents, Mick worked for several steel mills in the Shenango Valley, most recently Shenango, Inc., in Sharpsville. Mick was of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox faith. An avid Pittsburgh sports fan, he spent much of his time working with his hands building or repairing homes and cars. Mick was always there to lend a hand to those who needed his help with a project of their own. He is survived by two brothers, Ronald Lee Banas, Hermitage, and Steve A. Banas, with whom he made his home in South Pymatuning Twp.; a sister, Carol Maykowski, Hermitage; his longtime companion, Sharon Leckie, Brookfield; a nephew, David Trepanosky; a niece, Jennifer Kilgore (Chad); an aunt, Margie Giambattista; numerous cousins, extended family; and friends. In addition to his parents, Mick was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Banas and his wife, Judith; two brothers-in-law, Bob Maykowski and David Trepanosky; and a sister-in-law, Lois Banas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mick's memorial fund, online at: Mick's Memorial Fund. All contributions will be used directly to offset Mick's end-of-life expenses. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday (9-23-25) in St. John Orthodox Church, 3180 Morefield Rd., Hermitage, PA. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon, in the church, with Fr. David Mastroberte, officiating. Interment: St. John Orthodox Cemetery, Hermitage.
