YOUNGSTOWN - Ray H. McCune, 79, passed away peacefully on November 20th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 17th, 1945 in New Waterford, Ohio to the late Ray & Jean (Hamilton) McCune, Ray moved to Canfield at the age of four.
Ray had a dedicated life of service to his country and community. He was a proud attendee of Canfield High School and a graduate of Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. He earned a business degree in 1967 from his beloved alma mater, Penn State University and achieved his MBA in finance from the University of Miami (FL) in 1972. He went on to serve in the US Army Special Security Group, having top security clearance, with a tour in Seoul, Korea. Ray spent 40 years as a successful financial advisor - spending most of his career working with UBS/Paine Webber in Canfield, OH.
A true community servant, Ray was past president of Austintown Rotary and Canfield Booster Club. He was a member of the Canfield Rotary Club, Tippecanoe Country Club, the sons of the American Revolution, Argus Lodge, Youngstown Shrine Club and a very active member of Canfield United Methodist Church where he was a founder of the 39'ers Sunday school class.
Personally, Ray loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. He was passionate about playing golf, making sure his lawn was meticulously manicured and spending his summers poolside at Canfield Swim Club. One of his proudest personal moments on the golf course was when he made a hole in one in 2023 at the age of 78.
Ray is survived by the love of his life of 42 years, Ruth Aey McCune, whom he married August 28th, 1982; three wonderful sons and daughter in-laws, Ray (Julie), Rod (Christina) of Canfield and Ryan (Tricia) of Atlanta, GA. His six grandchildren, Stephanie, Raymond, Peyton, Rod, Nora and Ryan McCune. He adored both his children and grandchildren and found tremendous joy in watching every extra-curricular activity they participated in throughout the years.
To honor Ray's remarkable life, calling hours will be held on Monday, November 25th from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home located at 3701 Starr Centre Dr., Canfield, OH 44406.
