Raymond DeBonis Obituary

Raymond D. DeBonis, age 86, of Canfield, formerly of Hubbard passed away surrounded by his loving family at home on Monday April 22, 2024. Raymond was born February 27, 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Dominic & Mary A. Manilla DeBonis. He was a 1956 graduate of Hubbard High School, and later received his Bachelor's Degree from Grove City College. Raymond was in management for many years where he worked on the manufacturing of railroad equipment at the following companies, Greenville Steel Car, GATX, Electric Furnace in Salem, Pittsburgh Forging, and Lyco Manufacturing, retiring in 2001. He was the past president of American Welding Society, and life member of American Welding Association. He was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, and a former member of Hubbard Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of Round Table Wood Carvers. Raymond was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served with the 348th Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His hobbies included his 1940 Ford, wood carving of ducks and Santa Clauses, and collecting antiques. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family; his wife the former Carol J. Doughton whom he married July 8, 1961, his children Amy L. DeBonis of Columbus, Ohio, James R. (Jeanne) DeBonis of Brecksville, Ohio, Scott R. (Kimberly) DeBonis of Canfield, Ohio, and two grandchildren Dominic DeBonis and Anthony DeBonis. His parents preceded him in death. There will be services held on Friday April 26, 2024 at 11:30 AM, with calling hours prior to the service from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 West Main Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406-1428. Raymond will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Raymond's memory to Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406-1428. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home. Deepest sympathies to the DeBonis family. I worked with Ray at the Greenville Steel Car and he took me to my first TCA meet. I always considered Ray a friend and gentleman.
