Robert Mazur Obituary
Robert "Bob" John Mazur, a man of unwavering dedication and profound intellect, passed away at his home in Simpsonville, SC on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Born in Sharon, PA on March 8, 1935, he was the son of the late John and Stella (Kuznar) Mazur. After leaving Sharon, PA, Bob took oversea work assignments moving his family to Argentina and Taiwan while working for US Steel. Returning back to the States, Bob finally settled and spent his next 40 years living in Parkersburg, WV. Bob led a life marked by a deep appreciation for the intricacies of engineering, a passion for the history of World War II, and a profound love for all things railroads.
Bob, a distinguished engineer, dedicated his career to the complex workings of electrical systems. His expertise and innovation left an indelible mark on the industry, inspiring many in his field. Apart from his professional pursuits, Bob was a fervent railroad enthusiast. He not only read every train magazine or book published but donated his time to work on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad in Elkins, WV after he retired from the Kaiser Aluminum plant in Ravenswood, WV. His love for trains was infectious, as he shared this passion with his loved ones, leaving cherished memories that will endure for generations.
A WW2 historian at heart, Bob's deep respect for the sacrifices and bravery of those who served during the war was evident in his commitment to understanding and preserving their stories. His thirst for knowledge and desire to honor these heroes shone brightly throughout his life.
Bob was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
Bob will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 66 years, Rose Mazur; five children, Audrey Gregg-Solly (David Solly), Chris Mazur (Kim), Carol Surrey (Marc), Michael Mazur (Sherri Plauché), and Laura Dotson (Mark); 13 grandchildren, Amy DiPaola (Colin), Tesia Cleverley (Derek), Kelsey Mazur, John Gregg, Grayden Mazur, Morgan Rose Sifrit (Trey), Ryann Mazur, MacKenzie Surrey, Mitchell Surrey, Eryn Mazur, Alex Dotson, Meghan Surrey, and Regen Dotson; and seven great grandchildren, William Sifrit, James Sifrit, Wilde DiPaola, Lincoln Sifrit, Silvia Cleverley, Clover DiPaola, and Carter Sifrit. Their lives have been enriched by his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Mazur.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 02, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Bob will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Hermitage, PA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any organization that supports our veterans.
