Steve Darnell Jones

Steve Darnell Jones, 71, of 13567 Violet Meadows Blvd., Pickerington, OH, departed this life unexpectedly Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 5:13 p.m. at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. A loving husband, devoted father, and extremely proud grandfather, Steve was born February 24, 1953 in Henderson, TN the son of Orlandis and Shirley Anderson Jones, on February 24, 1953. A graduate of Vincent High School, Steve relocated to Warren, Ohio at the age of 18 in pursuit of his destiny and a higher calling. His Uncle Howard and Aunt Canary provided him with a stable family environment. With their support, he was able to evolve and flourish as a young man. He was an accomplished bass guitarist with a passion for rhythm & blues. It was his deep love for music that introduced him to the love of his life, Sheila Spencer, when she filled in as a guest lead singer for his band, Rapid Fire. After a whirlwind courtship, the two were married and built a life together rooted in faith, loyalty, and love. Together, their love produced what he believed to be his greatest accomplishments, his son Steven, and daughter, Danyelle. After receiving his degree from Trumbull Business College, Steve joined Hills Department Store, where he served as a district manager for over two decades. He then transitioned from Hills to the renowned Wal-Mart, where Steve was praised for being an astute businessman who excelled at increasing profit margins within every district he oversaw. He was in demand across the country within the corporation, which afforded him the opportunity to relocate and oversee districts headquartered in major cities, such as: Syracuse, NY, Buffalo, NY, Columbus, OH, and eventually, Zanesville, OH, where he retired from the company, just shy of three decades of service. Outside of his personal and professional accomplishments, Steve had a deep-seated love, care, and concern for the welfare of others; making sure to be intentional when it came to investing his time, equity, wisdom, and resources into the lives of those he loved. Above all else, he valued and prioritized his relationship with God, as displayed not by his words, but through his actions and his heart anchored in service and sacrifice. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, faithful companion, and co-star of 48 years, Sheila; beloved son, Steven Lamar Jones of Los Angeles, CA; daughter and the apple of his eye, Danyelle Jones (Gushy) of Chicago, IL; precious granddaughter, Olivia Joseph, who was his pride and joy; dearly loved siblings, Sherry (William) Phelps of Henderson TN, Bonita Jones of Indianapolis, IN, Melissa Jones of Honolulu, HI, Reginald Jones of Indianapolis, IN, Chucky Jones of Henderson, TN, and John (Alondra) Hart of Columbus, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Terry (Charlene) Jones and favorite dog, Max, whom he considered his first grandchild. Entrepreneur, musician, philanthropist, husband, father, grandfather, and HERO, the accomplishments and kindness of this GIANT among men has not only cemented his legacy but ensured that for generations to come, we'll be saying the name, Steve D. Jones, forever. We love you, dad. You are forever in our hearts. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with calling hours from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Greater Apostolic Faith Church. Burial will take place at Pine Knoll Cemetery.
