Cydne, I was in the MPH class at Tennessee with Hank and you. I remember the good times we had in our classes. I was sad to learn of Hank's passing from Colleen. May God bless you and your family.

I was Hank's very first secretary after he graduated from college a very ambitious young health educator with the State of North Carolina. He was so wonderful to work for - he quickly became respected in his field. Hank was so thoughtful - and remembered all the important 'secretary days' with lovely gifts! He was a great friend!

Hank was one of those individuals that really made a difference in the lives of others. He would always go out of his way to help, give advice, or just lend a hand. Even when he was sick, he was still putting others first and doing whatever he could to inspire, educate and give assistance. He made many, many friends and often left a lasting impression, he will truly be missed. It's amazing how one person can impact so many lives in a self-less manner and make such a positive difference in the community. I wish there were more Hank's in this world...

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to Hank and his family. I was a high school friend who graduated with his sister, Mary Margaret. Hank was a great guy; and from reading your local news online, I realize that he became an even greater man!

We have been neighbors of Hank and Cydne's for many years. I also used to see him several times a week when he would stop in at The Video Buff where I worked many years ago. He was so friendly and never failed to ask about me and my family. What a caring man! We will miss him...Our heartfelt sympathy to Cydne..

Hank was my supervisor many years ago at the Buncombe County Health Center in the Health Education Division. I was one of the health educators and recently retired starting my own business. I'm so sorry for your loss. Hank will be greatly missed in the Public Health World and by all of his friends and family.
With regards, Cheryl

Our deepest sympathy to the Collins family. Hank's gentle southern charm will be missed by all who were privileged to know him. His work to improve the livability of our communities, especially for children, will be a lasting legacy.

I worked with Hank and his wife in the North Carolina public health agency quite a few years ago -- from the other Guest Book entries that I read, little had changed about Hank -- always certain that he made his point -- and he stood by it. A man of principle, strong beliefs and great concern for his community. Here in Raleigh there are a number of us who'll be remembering Hank and the time we spent working together in his early days in public health.

Our community has lost a friend and a fine human being. I met Hank in my capacity as a volunteer and President of the Board of Friends of the Animal Shelter. Hank was always supportive of the Shelter and the work that our volunteers do.
My deep sympathy to Mrs. Collins and Hank's family.

Regrettably, I was not a personal friend of Mr. Collins. But in taking my Dad to his weekly doctor's appointments, I saw Mr. Collins a time or two. The last time I saw him (last fall), my Dad and I were charmed by his southern accent and a big smile that lit up his face. Most patients at this doctor's office are facing severe medical challenges, but I was struck by how positive Mr. Collins was, asking us about our own family in Alabama and telling tales about his visits to Tennessee. I know now after reading about his passing that we were only witnessing a few moments in time in the life of a very fine human being. May he rest in peace and may his family remember the best about him. Our thoughts are with them.

I worked for several seasons in Air Quality during the late 1980's -early 1990's.
I remember Hank to be a soft spoken, and kind person who was concerned for the people of his community, as well as the people who worked under him at Jackson County HHS.
He was approachable and real.
I'll never forget Hank going to bat with me over a glitch in my first paycheck. A few weeks later, we drew names for secret santa gift exchanges at the office, and Hank had drawn mine. He made sure he left me gifts of food items and stuff to keep me warm like gloves, and a scarf. I greatly appreciated his thoughtfulness while I waited for my first check to be released.
He was truly concerned with a persons well being.
We are all better off for his time with us. His impact will be felt here for many years to come.
My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Collins, and the rest of Hanks friends and family.
