JoEllen Holmes Obituary

JoEllen Holmes

"To live forever in the hearts of friends is to never die."

JoEllen Holmes went to meet her Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. She passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving family. During her illness she received an enormous amount of love from her friends and family, and despite the cancer, her last days were blessed, thanks to all who helped in so many ways.
She was born September 6, 1922, in Sherman, Texas, to Marvin E. and Helen (Sumner) Nunley. The family moved to Arizona where she worked as a bookkeeper. On March 30, 1946, in Phoenix, she married the love of her life, Thomas Holmes, who was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Tom and JoEllen moved to California and settled in the San Fernando Valley, where they raised two beautiful red-haired daughters. The family moved to Medford, Oregon in the 1960s, where Jo was involved in many activities. She was a member of the Gideons, a leader in the Lydea Circle of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Medford, and with her husband, a member of the Contemporary Autos of Southern Oregon, where she was frequently seen driving a classic car in the local parades. She also belonged to a social crafts club.
She volunteered at the Northridge (Calif.) Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and was a volunteer with the Presbyterian Women's group.
JoEllen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo, and her loving husband of 60 years, Tom. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Keltner (Charles), Central Point, Ore., and Nancy Reid (Harold), Burns, Ore.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford on Tuesday, May 12 at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Christopher Ward will officiate. A private burial service will be held at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to her memory be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Dr., Medford, OR. 97504.

Nancy,
Your parents were great people. I have lots of fond memories of all of you when I worked at West Main Pharmacy years ago.
I was able to visit with them a few years ago at the Parkside Cafe during lunch at the Medford Car Show.
I am sorry for your loss. I think about you often and hope you are well
