18 year resident of Southern Oregon, Mary E. Janke lived in Ruch until March 2004, then moved to Central Point. Mary, 84, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008, at her home with her daughter at her side. She was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Kansas City, MO. to Arthur and Grace Newton. She graduated from Raytown High School, MO. in 1941 and attended Huff Business College in 1941 and 1942. She then got a job at the Kansas City Star and married Robert B Corder in 1943 and had one daughter, Mary Anne Corder. She later divorced and moved to Tujunga, Calif. where she met Elden W. Janke who had one daughter, Lynn, and married on March 3, 1955, in North Hollywood, Calif. They were blessed with three more children, Tina, Tom, and Tami. They lived in the Santa Clarita Valley until moving to Oregon. She retired from Newhall Land and Farming (13 years) as secretary to chairman, president and chief executive officer in addition to being assistant secretary to the corporation. Upon retirement Mary & Elden moved to Oregon in February, 1990. In 2005, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren. She is predeceased by granddaughter, Emily Grace Sullivan; daughter, Mary Anne (Corder) Petter; husband, Elden W. Janke. She survived by sister, Betty Jean Holton of Westminister, Vt.; children, Tina Marie Janke of Central Point, Ore.; Thomas Michael Janke (wife, Tami) of Canyon Lake Calif.; Tamara Sue Fudge (husband, Jim) of Medford, Ore.; stepdaughter, Lynn Mead (husband, Harley) of Mission Hills, Calif.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Janke of Colby, Kansas; son-in-law, John Petter of Jamestown, Calif.; six grandchildren: Libby Zaine (husband, Jeff) of Pleasanton, Calif.; Michelle Petter of U.S. Army, Fort Sams Houston; Katelyn Janke and Leah Janke of Canyon Lake, Calif.; Joel Sullivan (wife, Erin) and Kelly Sullivan of Medford, Ore. And two great-grandchildren, John and Kate Zaine. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Arthur and Grace Newton.

She was active with the Friends of the Applegate Fire Department and played bunco each month for 19 years. Mary's accomplishments included two acres on the 14th hole of the Vista Valencia Golf Course, of which they gave her the flag, her porcelain dolls, which were featured in the Mail Tribune and participated in the Northwest Best catalog; and the most important of all, she raised a family and she loved them with all her heart. She leaves a legacy of such a loving family of friends. She will be remembered for her efforts at the Friends of the Applegate Fire Department. garage sales, her trips to Canyonville, Carpenteria and her savvy purchases from eBay and Goodwill. She loved her dog Tanner, roses, her walk with the Lord, Beebe's peaches, fried shrimp and most of all her family.

She attended the Applegate Christian Fellowship. The family will have a memorial service at the Applegate Christian Fellowship with Web Stanton officiating on Tuesday, July 8, at 3 p.m. She has chosen to donate her body to Med Cure of Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emily Sullivan Scholarship Fund at South Medford High School.
