Mary Daugherty

Mary Beth Daugherty, 76, of Quinlan died Oct. 16, 2008, in Greenville.She was born July 4, 1932, in Barnhart; the daughter of Grady and Lilly Brown. Mary was a teacher at Boles Independent School District. She was a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, National Education Association and worked under the Chapter One federally funded program. Mary was Teacher of the Year in 1999 in the Boles ISD. She enjoyed doing cross stitch, crocheting, knitting, tatting and was an excellent seamstress. Mary and husband Erwin served as child care workers in Tipton Children’s Home in Tipton, Okla., and Boles Childrens Home in Quinlan for seven years. Mary enjoyed flowers, plants and gardening. She was a member of the Boles Church of Christ and the Ladies Bible class at Johnson Street Church of Christ in Greenville. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her world. She played the cello in semi-professional symphony orchestras in San Angelo and Abilene.Mary is survived by her husband of Quinlan; a son, Carl R. and wife Cheryl Daugherty of Sanger; daughters Laura Lee Lejnot and husband John of Fort Wayne, Ind., Rebecca Lynn Dyben and husband Greg of South Bend, Ind., and Lois Jane Phillips and husband Michael of Delaware; a brother, Robert Edward Brown of Big Lake; sister Mina Fitting of Midland; grandchildren Shawnda, Angela, Melissa, Caleb, Charity, Curtis, Nichole and Moises; and great-grandchildren Ryanna and Blake.Her parents and a daughter, Sarah Kay, preceded her in death.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Boles Church of Christ.
