Arlene Hutchinson Obituary

BELGRADE -- Arlene Judkins Hutchinson, 83, passed away Nov. 1, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, following a short illness, with her family at her side.

She was born in Belgrade on June 15, 1928, the daughter of Steve and Viola (Gray) Judkins. Arlene graduated from Belgrade High School in 1947 and from Gates Business College in 1948.

After graduating, she worked at Augusta Hardware for many years as a bookkeeper, then Lipman Poultry before going to work for the Maine Department of Transportation.

Arlene married the love of her life, Armand Hutchinson, on Dec. 9, 1951. They had one daughter, Christie Powell.

Arlene loved traveling, camping, their many years at Fryeburg Fair, special years at their hunting camp in Weld, their many summers at their camper at Hutchinson Beach in Weld and spending time with her daughter, Christie. At the age of 70, she got her ham radio license and enjoyed many years with her ham radio club friends.

Surviving are her daughter, Christie Powell, of Waterville; her sister, Melva Judkins, of Augusta; a brother, Alton Judkins and wife Carol of East Winthrop; a brother, Gary Judkins and wife Donna of Florida; sisters-in-law Barbara York of Belgrade and Marilyn Plum of East Weymouth, Mass.; also many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved and enjoyed her cat, Angel, until her death.

The family extends a special thank-you to the staff at the oncology department at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta for the excellent care Arlene received.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons, Route 27, Belgrade Lakes, immediately following the service. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home of Oakland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Belgrade Rescue, 6 Manchester Road, Belgrade, ME. 04917; or Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, 361 Old Belgrade Road, Augusta, ME 04330.

John and I remember Arlene, she was tuly a delightful person. John worked with her at the Dept. of Transportation and she and Armand always were at the Dept. functions together. A great lady will be missed by many.
