Barry Fearon Obituary

Rev. Barry K. Fearon
1932 - 2016
WEST GARDINER - Rev. Barry K. Fearon, 84, of West Gardiner, went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2016. He was born in Saco on April 11, 1932, the son of the late John Henry and the late Gladys (Nason) Fearon.
He spent his formative years at Wells Beach and graduated from Wells High School in 1951. Barry enlisted in the US Navy at age 19. He married Shirley Graves on Dec. 17, 1955, only three months after their first date. In December 2015 they celebrated 60 years of marriage with family and friends.
During his 20 year Navy career, he and Shirley along with their children, lived in several states as well as Italy and Bermuda. Their first child was born in Italy and two daughters were born in South Carolina and Virginia.
After retiring from the Navy, God called him into His service. He graduated from Glen Cove Bible College in 1975 and before his graduation in 1973 he became the pastor of the First Baptist Church of West Gardiner, where he retired in 1993. He was well known for his enthusiasm behind the pulpit, whether he was singing or preaching, he had a zeal for the Lord.
After retiring from the ministry, he enjoyed painting country scenes and seascapes as well as leading small group Bible Studies. He could always be found with his Bible open, ready for a discussion. His love for teaching God's Word never ended. He was also a passionate fan of the New England sports teams.
He is predeceased by three sisters and a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Graves Fearon of West Gardiner; his son Randy of Whitman, Mass. and wife Melissa, daughter Brenda Grant of West Gardiner and husband Reggie, daughter Gayle of West Gardiner and husband Kent; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Barry's life will be on Tuesday, May 31 at Grace Community Chapel, 187 Lewiston Road in West Gardiner. There will be a viewing at 2 p.m. and a service to follow at 3 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave Gardiner.
