Carola Orff Obituary

JEFFERSON -- Carola M. Orff, 77, a resident of Jefferson, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in Ibbenbüren, Germany, the eldest child of the late Karl and Fransiska Wiese Schönlein.

She grew up and attended schools in Germany, and in June of 1964 she married her husband, Robert, in Karlsruhe, Germany. After the couple married they traveled throughout the United States, while Robert served in the Army. When Robert retired, the couple moved to Jefferson.

In the 1980s, Carola began working at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro as a CNA and worked at Fieldcrest for 20 years.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, shopping, bird watching, knitting, and crocheting afghans, going to the family camp, and loved to spend time with her family and friends.

The Orff family would like to extend a thank-you to Dr. John Dickens and his staff at Lincoln Medical Partners, and Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for mother.

Also they would like to add a special thank-you to their wonderful neighbors, James and Kim Anderson.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and cared for her.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Heinz Schönlein; sister Helga Kleck and brother-in-law Klaus Kleck.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Robert Orff, of Jefferson; daughters Soraya Umphrey, and her husband, Fred, of Pittston, Evelin Brown of Edgecomb, Sonja Orff, and her husband, John M. Ney Jr., of Cape Elizabeth; foster son Harland Stanley of Topsham; grandchildren Mike Orff and his wife, Amanda, of Waterbury, Conn., Jessica Magee of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tiffany Magee of Honolulu, Hawaii, Karen Brown of Edgecomb and James Brown of Edgecomb; and great-grandchildren Gillian, Jacob and Zachary Orff, all of Waterbury, Conn..

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.

A celebration of Carola's life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robin Honaker officiating. Interment will be held at German Protestant Cemetery in Waldoboro following the service.
