Charlotte Scudder Obituary

EASTPORT -- Charlotte M. Jewett Scudder passed away Dec. 20, 2007, at the Lakewood Manor Skilled Care Nursing Facility in Waterville while recovering from surgery.

She was born Aug. 10, 1918, at Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick, the daughter of Ambrose Jewett and Jennie (Merrithew) Jewett.

The family moved to Smithfield in 1920 and she attended school in Smithfield, and graduated from Norridgewock High School in 1935.

She was employed at Norwock Shoe Company in Norridgewock. She married Herschel L. Scudder of Sherman Mills on June 8, 1946, at the Smithfield Baptist Church after his return from serving in World War II in the European Theater. They lived in Houlton for five years. They then moved to Madawaska in 1951, where he served with the U.S. Customs Service. He was transferred to Eastport, where he retired in 1977, passing away in 1985. She was a member of the Washington Street Baptist Church in Eastport.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence of Norridgewock and Cecil of Smithfield.

She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Lee of Eastport; two grandsons, Joshua and Benjamin Scott of New York; niece Janet Stanhope of Florida; nephew Lawrence Jewett of Leeds; and nephew David Jewett of Texas.

A graveside service will be held at the Sunset View Cemetery, Norridgewock in the spring.

Arrangements are with Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, ME 04976.
