1915-2014
ORLANDO, Fla. - Dorothy Bryce Cotton, formerly of Augusta, Maine, died at her home in Orlando, Fla., on June 3, 2014, at the age of 99.
She was born to John and Emily Bryce on March 6, 1915, in Portland, Maine. Dorothy graduated from South Portland High School and received a degree in nursing from Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary in Portland. She married Linwood Cotton in 1938.
A spiritual person throughout her life, Dorothy was a member of the Green Street Methodist Church in Augusta for decades until moving to Florida with her son and his wife in 2004. Her many talents included painting, gourmet cooking, stenciling, reading, knitting and crocheting. Most of all she loved spending summers at her cottage on Panther Pond in Raymond, Maine, visiting with her family, playing cards, and enjoying lobster.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents; her husband; and four sisters: Louise Bryce, of Gorham, Maine, Charlotte Chandler, of Lancaster, Mass., Eleanor Leary of Norwich, Conn., and Enid Mower, of Greene, Maine.
She is survived by two children: Ron Cotton and his wife, Sylvia, of Orlando, and Emily Poole and her husband, Carl, of South Bristol, Maine. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Michael Cotton, of Niwot, Colo., Stephen Cotton, of Orlando, Tiffany Lott, of New Hartford, N.Y., Joseph Poole ,of Phillips, Maine, and Jennifer DeGraff, of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; as well as six great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the chapel on Wednesday, June 25. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Stroudwater Street, Westbrook, Maine. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Vitas Hospice, Team 193, 2201 Lucien Way, Suite 100, Maitland, FL 32751, in memory of Dorothy Cotton.
