Eileen Stevens Obituary

Eileen Ruth Stevens
1925- 2017
PLEASANT RIDGE PLANTATION - Eileen Ruth (Salburg) Stevens, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec. 24, 2017. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on March 25, 1925, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Schulberg) Salburg.
Eileen was raised all over the mid-west as her father was able to find farming work. After graduating from high school in Lincoln, Neb., Eileen moved back to Sioux City. A short time later she met her husband, Leslie Stevens, who was stationed there with the Army Air Corps. They married on Feb. 25, 1944, and moved to Pleasant Ridge Planation in 1957 to raise their family.
Eileen worked for a short time as a bus driver and cook for the local school, but for the majority of her life, she dedicated nearly all of her time to her husband and nine children.
After Leslie's retirement, Eileen enjoyed traveling out west with him. They drove across the country and even attended one of her high school reunions. Never with idle hands, Eileen could be found sewing, knitting or crocheting in her spare time. She also kept busy with word searches and crossword puzzles.
Eileen will be dearly missed by her children, Lyle Stevens and his wife Ruth, Merleen McCollor, Susan Sherman and her husband Clark, Mark Stevens, Secha Steward and her husband James, Jorja Robinson and her husband Seth, Earland Stevens and his wife Pauline, Lesa Bean and her husband Merrill, and Ethel Ann Granholm and her husband Scott; grandchildren, Bruce and Sandy McCollor, Aaron and Lance Sherman, Nikki Gardiner, Mark Jr., Lyle and Preston Stevens, Tonya Stevens, Joshua and Lucas Steward, Jenifer Goulette, Carolyn Nadeau, Derek Bean, and Jessica and Nathan Granholm; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Rosencrans and her husband Donald; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; grandson, Kevin McCollor, granddaughter, Kasi Gajkowski; son-in-law, Jack McCollor, and daughter-in-law, Jane Stevens.
A graveside service is tentatively scheduled for June 16, 2018, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Finalized details will be published in the Morning Sentinel in June.
Eileen's family extends their deepest appreciation to Jamie Doiron and Leni McCandless, the activity directors at Cedar Ridge for helping keep Eileen active during her time there. Also, the family appreciates the excellent care provided to Eileen by Vicki and Vanessa, two CNA's who went above and beyond for her.
