Frank Getchell Obituary
1917 - 2015
WATERVILLE - Frank A. Getchell, 98, passed away on Sunday Oct. 4, 2015. A lifelong resident of Vassalboro, he was born on Jan. 18, 1917 to Frank H. and Gertude (Poulin) Getchell.
Frank was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a well-known business owner of Getchells' Apple Orchard and Oil Company. In his later years he operated Getchells' Corner Store. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic. Frank was one of the original founders of the Vassalboro Historical Society and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Marjorie Getchell, Beverly Trainor, and Letitia Hambrick. He leaves his most devoted wife of 64 years, Eleanor; sons Frank Jr. and wife Judy, and John Getchell of Vassalboro; his loving grandchildren Sean T. Getchell of Skowhegan, and Shannon D. Boyle of Glenburn; sisters Corinne Crumpecker and Betty Abbott; numerous nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Skip Hambrick, who brightened up the last few years with weekly visits and homemade treats.
Special thanks to the staff at Oak Grove Nursing Center and Dr. William Bennett for his care over the years.
Visiting hours will be held at Veilleux Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 10th, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a service at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Village Cemetery in North Vassalboro.

Many, many great memories, my first just before my 4th birthday. Watching my Dad tie cans and old shoes to the back of Frank's car so they would come clanging out as Frank and Eleanor drove off on their honeymoon. Great person and had the best apple's I have ever eaten. He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to Eleanor and the rest of his family.

Mrs. Getchell and family, so sorry to hear about Frank's pasting. He will be missed on the hill.
How I first met him was when he would drive down the hill and drive up our driveway and sit in his car, a play his radio, smoke his cigar and sit there and check up on his blueberry bushes. Not sure if that is what made them grow or not.
