1945-2014
AUGUSTA - James A. Rouillard, 68, passed away Feb. 27, 2014, at his home. He was born March 24, 1945, in Augusta, the son of Albert J. Rouillard and Martha (Lajoie) White. He attended local schools and graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1963. He joined the Navy Seabees as an electrician and proudly served his country all over the world, which included two tours in Vietnam. Part of his stateside service included five years at Camp David, Md., where he served under Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. He was honorably discharged in 1988 with the rank of Senior Chief E8.
His commendations included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Service Badge and Certificate, and the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V" (second award).
Jim enjoyed weekend and vacation camping with his family. He liked following political trends and was very savvy in that arena. Jim enjoyed helping his friends and family and was very supportive of his favorite charities, especially his military family, Wounded Warriors & Disabled Veterans. He was also a regular supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Jim is survived by three sons, Jamie Rouillard and wife Yvonne, of Oregon, Billy Rouillard and wife Sherry, of Oregon, and Harold Rouillard and wife Rebecca, of New Mexico; and predeceased by a daughter, Cathy (Rouillard) Griffis. He also is survived by six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louella Rolfe, of Eddington, Linda Scott, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Brenda Lovley, of Bangor; one brother, Paul White, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; four nieces and four nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. A small gathering for family and friends will follow the service at 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Jim's memory to the Wounded Warrior program.
