James Teague Obituary

James Russell Teague, 62
LONG ISLAND - James R. Teague, "Rusty," 62, of Long Island, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on June 25, 2017, after a brief and courageous battle with colon cancer.
Rusty was born on Oct. 17, 1954, in Bloomington Indiana, the son of Kenneth and Sarah Teague. He was raised in Bloomington and attended local schools where he met the love of his life and started their family.
He and his family moved to Maine in 1986, where he first worked on the F/V Boone with Capt. Steven Johnson. He also worked many years as sternman on the lobster boat F/V Kathleen.
Rusty was an avid member of his small community, where he was a lieutenant on the Long Island Volunteer Fire Department for more than 25 years. When he filled the community's need for a deputy sheriff in 1999, his love for service lead him to law enforcement with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department. After serving two years, he transferred to the State of Maine as a deputy judicial marshal, where he retired after 17 years of service.
Rusty loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. It can easily be said that living life was one of his biggest passions. Among his hobbies were racing cars, throwing horseshoes, music, four-wheeling in northern Maine, and playing drums for many bands, most recently, the band Plan B, of Long Island.
He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Teague; and his older brother, Lawrence Teague.
He is survived by his mother, Sarah Teague, of Long Island; and his sister, Diana Neff, of Bloomington, Ind.
He is also survived by his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Diana Teague, of Long Island; and their two daughters, Stephanie Rich and her husband Larry, of Falmouth; and Rachelle Horton and her husband Brian, of Naples. He leaves behind his seven beautiful grandchildren, Lauren, Abigail, Caitlyn, Ciara, Piper, Isaac, and Wyatt. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a beloved community that he adored.
He had a beautiful life and family, and brought all who knew him love, friendship, and devotion. He will be sadly missed by so many.
His memorial service will be held on the Lord's day, July 16, at 1 p.m. (11 a.m. boat from Casco Bay Lines with convenient returns) at the VFW Hall, Long Island.
