Mark graduated from Cony High School in 1978 and the Capital Area Regional V.T.I., Auto Mechanics program. Mark then worked several jobs and continued his education at the University of Maine at Augusta, and Johnson & Wales College in Rhode Island, majoring in business administration and accounting.
Mark was the first successful town manager, for the town of Manchester, Maine, for the past seven years. He was previously treasurer for the cities of Augusta and Hallowell.
Mark was a member of Green Street United Methodist Church of Augusta, and was a committee member for Legislative Policy of the Maine Municipal Association. Words cannot adequately describe his generous personality, leadership abilities, friendship, and absolutely energetic zest for applying positive energy to everyday working situations, contract negotiations and problem skills. For Mark, challenges in this life, were the paths to unknown opportunities, that he chose to pave with character, dignity, laughter and enthusiasm, and he turned adversity to accomplishments, and offered dignity to his opposition by respecting their points of view.
Survivors include his wife, Sue (Conway) Poulin-Doyon of Manchester; two adult children, Zachary Poulin and Mark's little buddy, Ethan Poulin, who helped Mark add his contagious laughter to everyday life. Together, they were an inseparable team, and family. Beside his immediate family, Mark will be sadly missed by his mother-in-law, Deloris Conway of Augusta, two sisters-in-law, Bonnie and her husband, Wayne Mitchell, of Sidney, and her family; Carol Webb, of Rochester, N.H., his mother, Grace Doyon, of Augusta; three sisters: Lorelei and her husband, Tom Webber, of Augusta, Lisa and her husband, Mike Lapore, of Laurel, Md., and Lynn (Farrell) Charrette of Winslow; three brothers, Michael and his wife, Liz, Doyon of Sidney, Maurice and his wife, Sherrie, Doyon of Winthrop and Paul and his wife, Shelley, Doyon of Augusta; each of their own families, countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mark was predeceased by his father Ronald, and by his youngest brother, Donald Doyon.
At Mark's request, there will be no public visiting hours. A celebration of Mark's Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Green Street United Methodist Church, 13 Green St., Augusta., with Rev. Tomas L. Blackstone, Ph. D., pastor officiating. A private burial will take place immediately following.
Mark wished to thank his closest friends, and sponsors, the staff at the Harold Alfond Center, his hard-working staff, and board in the town of Manchester, and the personally well-known professionals in his surrounding communities who helped him advance his career goals, and helped him throughout his inspirational battle with illness.
Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home,16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Condolences may be expressed at www.plummerfh.com

Sue and family,
Mark was a great man, and someone I respected as a father. Seeing how he loved Ethan and wasn't afraid to show that love on a daily basis made him one of my role models on how a Dad should be! I will always remember him for that, the "roast beast",and being a terrible wii player! Thank you guys for welcoming me like you did, I really appreciate and treasure the brief time I had to know him!

Sue, Grace and Family,
Mark will forever live in our hearts and soul. He gave of himself and never asked for anything but love and respect in return. Mark, please know that so many of us respect you and always have and the love from friends, family and the community is over flowing. God I am sure is there by your side as you are watching your family, please know they will survive because you taught them how.
God Bless you all in this time. Remember his smile always.

The entire Doyon Family and Extended Family:
It is so hard to put into words what you want to write when someone loses a loved one. I hope this helps. Mark is no longer suffering, and he is now looking down and smiling at us from above, drying our tears and reassuring us that he is well. Mark is waiting to greet us when we pass on to eternal life.
My condolences to everyone who is in the Doyon family and Extended Family who has been touched by Mark. We are all better people by having been touched by the light of his life.

To all our family up there, although we will not be able to be there physically, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. In a little book called "The Prophet", Khalil Gibran writes "what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from it's restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered". We know that Mark is safe in his arms now. We love and miss you all!

Sue & family,
Was deeply saddened to hear of Mark's passing. In the time we spent working together in the Treasurer's Office for the City of Augusta we shared many laughs and became not only coworkers but friends. We kept in contact through the years through phone calls and emails and it was always if no time had passed. He will surely be missed by all that knew him professionally, but especially missed by those of us who were lucky enough to call him a friend. May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in your loving memories together as a family.
With heartfelt sympathy...

Mark and I worked together on many projects which involved The Towns of Readfield and Manchester over the last three years. I had a deep respect for him both personally and professionally. I can't imagine anyone being more dedicated to their profession than Mark was. Indeed the world has lost one of the good guys. My condolences to his family.

Grace and family,I have many great memories of getting the bus at the end of your driveway and all of us raising cane before the bus got there. We were lucky to grow up in this neighborhood and to have each other. When Mark laughed, his whole face would light up. God just got a very special angel. I will treasure my memories of him always. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. I love you all !!!

Dear Sue,
I am deeply sadden by the loss of Mark.
He touched the lives of so many of us. Mark had a heart of gold. He was always positive, loving life, people, and the gift of being a social butterfly (as I use to tell him) and chatting. I truly enjoyed my years of employment at the Town Office working beside him, not just as the clerk but on various committees. He was not only my Boss but a Dear Friend, who I knew I could call at any given time to say hi.
I truly admired him for his strength, courage, positive attitude and the fight that he was going to beat his cancer. Unfortunately, he was taken from all of us who knew and loved him, and is now in the hands of God. I will miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with You, Zack, Ethan and Family.

As a fellow municipal manager, Mark was a favorite resource among his colleagues. He was not only known for his expertise and willingness to assist. He was appreciated for his passion to make a difference and serve and mostly, for the optimism that he lived. Few understand that this profession takes a family commitment. During this time of your loss, please accept our appreciation to you, his family and close friends that were willing to unselfishly share his life with the communities and organizations that he served. Our hearts are saddened since the news on Friday but our passions for this profession are refreshed because of the example Mark set for all of us.
