Myrtle Hendsbee Obituary

JEFFERSON -- Myrtle L. Rollins Hendsbee of Rockland Road passed away at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center on Sept. 7, 2005, with her family beside her, following a brief battle with cancer.

She was born in Windsor on July 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Murt R. Rollins and Carrie I. (Brown) Rollins of Windsor. Myrtle was one of six children. The others are: Elzena Rollins Cook (deceased), Elva Rollins Baker (deceased), Thelma Rollins Towers (deceased), Gordon Rollins (deceased) and Geraldine Rollins Pierpont of Gardiner.

Myrtle was married to George Hendsbee Sr., who passed away on Nov. 6, 1992.

She is survived by two sons, George H. Hendsbee Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Whitefield and Anthony "Tony" Hendsbee of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Lisa Christie of Gardiner, Guy Hendsbee and his companion, Christine Gagne, of Whitefield, Lynn Hendsbee of Florida and Tamra Hendsbee Patrie and her husband, Stephen, of Whitefield; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Hendsbee of Gardiner, Aubrey Patrie of Whitefield, Jacob Hendsbee of Whitefield and Bailey Hendsbee of Whitefield; and several nieces and nephews. Two of her nieces, Carolyn Armstrong of Readfield and Patty Gagne of Naples, Fla., she thought of as her girls, especially since she only had boys and no daughters.

Myrtle dearly loved her grandchildren and they dearly loved her. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Myrtle retired from Augusta Mental Health Institute in 1985 after 25 years of service. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekahs.

Myrtle was an avid beano player who took in three or four games a week when she was feeling good. She loved to play cards -- cribbage, canasta, 63 or 83. She loved flowers and had a flower garden in the summer months.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Road, Windsor, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will occur in Rest Haven Cemetery, Windsor.

Condolences may be expressed via the funeral home Web site, at http://www.plummerfh.com

Sorry to hear about Aunt Myrtle's passing away. I loved visiting with her and Uncle George. I remember her as a great cook; she made the best hamburgers! Please extend my love, thoughts, and prayers to George, Bonnie, Tamra, Guy, and Van. Love, Mary Esther ("Polyester" as Uncle George always teasingly called me)
