Phyllis Watson Obituary

PHYLLIS H WATSON
1923 – 2015
MANCHESTER – Phyllis H. Watson, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at the Maine General Rehabilitation Center-Gray Birch. Family and friends spent many hours by her bedside during her final days. She was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Chelsea, the daughter of Leslie Nelson and Hazel Shields.
Phyllis lived most of her life in Chelsea until 12 yeas ago when she moved to Lindenbrooke Park in Manchester. She made many new friends and loved getting together with them either in her apartment or outside under the trees during the summer days.
Phyllis was a dedicated and loving mother, raising two children. She was also an exceptional cook who liked to express her unconditional love to her family and friends through spending many hours in the kitchen making food for them. If she wasn't cooking, Phyllis loved to shop and her passion was sewing her own clothes. She loved new stylish flashy clothes and always looking like a lady. Phyllis worked for many years at Health Tex as a stitcher and later as a supervisor. She and her husband Leslie were also owners of Watson's Greenhouse in Chelsea where they spent many wonderful years working side by side.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Leslie who died Oct. 3, 1987; and a son Fred Watson who died April 20, 2001. Phyllis is survived by her loving daughter Hazel Dow and husband Gerry Dow of Manchester. She also leaves to cherish her memory her two grandsons, Wayne Watson of Chelsea and Jed Dow of New York City; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Watson of Augusta.
The family would like to thank Dr Polkinghorn at the Alfond Center for his care and the Maine General Rehabilitation Center at Gray Birch. The family would also like to thank Pastor Glenn Peterson of Hope Baptist Church and all of Phyllis's friends who there to support her. We would also like to thank Beverly Dill who spent many hours over the last several weeks with Phyllis.
Visiting hours will be from 10-10:30 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 26th at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner followed by a funeral at 11 a.m.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
