Reta Caron Obituary

Reta Caron
1927 - 2015
AUGUSTA - Reta Caron, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015. Reta was born in Fairfield, to the late John and Helen (Pelletier) DaPrato on April 4, 1927.
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to so many and known affectionately as "Pete" by her six siblings, Reta was predeceased by her sisters: Helena LeClair and Connie Ridley, as well as her brothers: John, Leo, Roland and Richard DaPrato.
Reta attended schools in Fairfield, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1943. In 1947, she married Leo Fred Caron, and together the couple raised a family of five, first settling in Winslow and later making their home for several decades in Augusta. Leo passed away in May of 2008.
Through the years, Reta was employed by Bell Shoppes and Chernowsky's women's clothing stores and Sears in Augusta.
A communicant of St. Andrew's and St. Mary's churches in Augusta, Reta also was a lifetime Auxiliary Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, McGill-Rousseau Post #8835 in Winslow.
Reta will be remembered as a homemaker devoted to her husband and family. She enjoyed music and was known to sing beautiful harmony with her children on songs from today or yesterday, whether in the car, around the house or just relaxing outside on a sunny day. She had a lifelong love of books, particularly biographies, mysteries and poetry. She also spent many happy hours playing cards and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles with her children and grandchildren.
Reta will be greatly missed by her son, Michael L. Caron of Bowdoin, four daughters and their husbands: Nancy E. and Norman Davis of West Gardiner, Cynthia A. and Richard Carney of Brunswick, Connie M. C. and Pete Channell of Prince George, Va., and Leslie J. and George Pendleton of Lebanon, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as two brothers-in-law, Francis LaBrecque and Wilfred Caron; and many nieces, nephews; and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Reta on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. A celebration of her life will immediately follow at the VFW Hall at 509 Leighton Road, also in Augusta. Reta will be laid to rest next to her husband of 61 years at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. At the family's request, a private burial gathering will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Memories and condolences to the family can be expressed at www.plummerfh.com
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the healthcare professionals at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Long Term Care - Gray Birch and the caring members of Reta's hospice team who made her last days more comfortable.
