Richard was born in East Boston, Mass., on July 26, 1932, the son of Frank C. and Irene (Colfer) Preshong. The family later moved to Maine where he attended Gardiner schools.
Richard served in the Army and retired after 22 year of service, eight years which were in the National Guard. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and also was stationed in Germany and Fort Devens, Mass. He was in Special Forces while he was in the Army.
He also was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Miami, Fla., and Augusta for many years. He also was a courier for local banks in the Augusta area.
He was a member of the Elks Club, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion, was an avid sports and wrestling fan.
He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Nancy Pelkey. He also leaves behind his three brothers, James, of Fairfield, Francois, of Lewiston, and Robert, of Houston, Texas; a sister, Carole, of New Jersey; as well as a daughter, Patricia, of Arizona; Nancy's son, Dana, of Louisiana; daughter Belinda, of Augusta; and four grandchildren.
A service will take place at a later date at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery on Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
