He was born in Benton on Aug. 23, 1927, the son of the late Austin and Dorothy (Reid) Gilley.
In January of 1949, he married the former Claire Ferland.
Following his schooling, Bob served in the U.S. Army, during World War II, in Germany. He was employed with Tilcon, formally Warren Bros., and Lee Bros., retiring as a heavy equipment operator.
Bob was charter member and life member of the Fairfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of Future Farmers of America.
He had many interests, including gardening, talking about cars, trucks and heavy equipment and talking about the old days and the greatest generation.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by all of his siblings.
Bob will be sadly missed by his children, Robert A. Gilley Jr. and his wife, Angelita, of Roseville, Calif., Michael T. Gilley and his wife, Lourdes, of Winslow, Donald D. Gilley Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Waterville, and Richard L. Gilley and his wife, Linda, of Waterville; his very special friend, Joyce Starbuck, of Winslow; his grandchildren, Anthony, Kimberly, and Crystal Gilley, Shawn Gilley, Donald Gilley Jr. and his wife, Loretta, Jessica Field and her husband, Trevor, and Richard Gilley; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the folks at HealthReach Hospice for the wonderful care and support. Thank you also to Bob's daughter-in-law, Patricia Gilley, for the care she provided.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 30, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, with Pastor Bill Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Grove St., Waterville.

To the Family of Bob GilleySr.
I had the distinct privalege of working with Bob, in Symirna Mills, while 95 was being completed, under leadership of Loroy Norton. Warren Bros. Constr. Bob fed ole "Crusher #8"as I removed the materials from the belts. I did learn alot from his guidance, and remember the cigars he enjoyed. Please except my condolerance.
