Robert Smith Obituary
1973 - 2016
GARDINER - Robert B. Smith Jr., 43, of Gardiner, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 18, 2016, at his home. He was born in Portland on March 12, 1973, the son of Robert B. Sr. and Judy F. Corbin Smith.
Robert was a graduate of Penobscot Valley High School. He was a self-employed tile contractor who subcontracted for Homestead Flooring Company in Yarmouth.
He was a devoted and amazing father, and loved his daughter more than life itself.
Robert had a love of music and played many musical instruments. He was a person of many talents, a perfectionist in everything he did.
Robert was predeceased by a brother, George Auger, and his mother Judy Corbin Smith.
He is survived by his daughter Lillianne (Lilly) Smith of Portland; his parents Robert Sr. and Sarah Smith of Lynch Station, Va.; paternal grandmother Avis Smith of Bridgton; a brother, Michael Greenwald of Waterboro; his sister Barbara Auger of Strong; a very special Aunt Mo; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, at 10 a.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., in Gardiner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to a charity of your choice.

Although we never became close with Rob, we were neighbors and would smile..and wave daily. We watched Rob and his beautiful daughter play in the yard across the street. On warm summer nights we would hear his drums, like a heartbeat, playing steady and true...and we would sit by our fire pit and listen. I will miss our neighbor and our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this sad time.

Bob and Sarah ... we are so sorry to hear of your loss... and there are no words that we can say that will comfort you through this horrible time... we know with the loss of Ashlee we have struggled many times... but we have to keep the faith or we will never get through these times but know that with wonderful memories and special things that was Roberts you will cherish them forever ... we still find things of Ashlee's and oh I always say that Ash really never left us at all she is so around and she is always surrounds us with her wonderful spirit ... I know this is so hard for you to believe but know that you have to keep your faith to get through this ... don't be afraid if he comes to you because he will in so many different ways... for us I was missing her so much and this beautiful yellow butterfly stayed with me all day and oh now when we see a yellow butterfly it just reminds everyone who knows this think of Ashlee ... and she seems to come around when we are troubled ... its sounds crazy but is so true ... Robert was such a nice guy he graduated with Ryan and he also has a Lilly ... he sends his love and sadness to you ... know that today and many day's after you will be in our thoughts and prayers... much love ...
