Roberta Ann (Birdie) Conant
1944-2015
SKOWHEGAN - Roberta Ann (Birdie) Conant, 70, of Skowhegan, passed away at her home on Dudley Corner Road on April 21, 2015, with all of her children at her side. She was born in Skowhegan on Sept. 30, 1944, the daughter of Raymond True and Phyllis (Doak) Boynton. She attended Skowhegan schools and graduated from Skowhegan High in 1962.
Roberta was a talented bookkeeper and worked for many companies during her 50-year career, including Pen Bay Medical Center, HD Goodall Hospital, Kennebec Valley Regional Health, and most recently, Maine Stone & Landscape in Rockport. She also held other bookkeeping positions in Middlebury, Vt., and Baytown, Texas.
Birdie was known for her quick wit and feisty sense of humor matched only by her nurturing and caring heart. Her comical observations and slightly lewd remarks created quick friendships with the medical staff during her recent stays in both Redington-Fairview and Augusta General hospitals. Friends and family always left Birdie's house with a full belly sore from laughs. From extravagant detailed cross stiches to gardening and hand mowing many acres of land, she liked to keep busy making her surroundings beautiful.
Roberta was predeceased by her father, True, in 2014; her sister, Kay Bragg, in 2010; and her mother-in-law, Ruth Conant, in 1991. She is survived by her mother, Phyllis Boynton of Skowhegan; her three children, Scott Conant of Upland, Calif., and his wife Laurie, Lisa (Conant) Laney of Greenville, and her husband Steve, and Stephen Conant of Skowhegan; four of her siblings and their spouses, Henry and Donna Boynton, Dea and Raymond Beauford, William and Bonnie Boynton, all of Skowhegan, Norma and Vicky Boynton of Waterville, her brother-in-law, David Bragg of West Rockport; and other family including her aunt Phillie Chamberlain; and cousin Lee Sinclair, both of Skowhegan; and sister-in-law Nancy Goodwin of Brunswick; her seven grandchildren, Erienne (Conant) Hughes of Corvallis, Ore. and her husband Calvin, Amanda (Conant) Johns of Bend, Ore. and her husband Chris, Samuel Conant of Visalia, Calif., Adam Sincyr of Skowhegan, Brittany (Sincyr) Gould of Greenville, and her husband Josh, Courtney Conant of Skowhegan, and Caileigh Conant of Skowhegan; her three great-grandchildren: Cecilia, Isaac, and Abraham; as well as 20 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at The Federated Church of Skowhegan on Island Avenue, on Saturday, April 25, at 4 p.m. Arrangements are by Lawry Brothers, 107 Main St., Fairfield. An online guestbook may be signed and memories shared at
