Roger Smith Obituary

Roger A. Smith
1949 - 2016
AUGUSTA - Roger A. Smith, 66, of Augusta, passed away with his loving family by his side on March 30, 2016, at Winthrop Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center.
Roger was born on Dec. 17, 1949, the son of Edith Arlene and James "Smitty" Robert Smith. Roger was born in Buxton, where he attended local schools.
Roger was a hard worker and loved all of the many jobs he had throughout his life. He was always willing to go above and beyond and would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need.
A true man of the wilderness, Roger had a deep knowledge and true love of the outdoors. He loved spending his time rock hounding, birdwatching and observing wildlife, and simply being amongst nature's peacefulness.
Roger also loved spending time with friends, his cats, and with his two sons, whom he was very proud of, and enjoyed the simple moments with them the most.
Roger was known by his wonderful sense of humor, his gentle nature, and his many sayings; including, "Do as you will, but harm no one."
Roger was predeceased by his parents.
Roger is survived by his two sons, Cory Smith and wife Megan of Augusta, and Bradley Smith of Bangor; the mother of his children, Gayle Bolles of Bridgton; his sons' sisters, who were like daughters, Deana Potts and significant other Dakota of Waterford, and April Richardson and husband Travis, and their sons, Chase and Parker; his two siblings, Brenda Dunn of New Sharon, and David Smith of Westbrook; several neices and nephews; and friends, Taho, Mike, and many others.
The family would like to thank Karlye, Ashley and Sandy, as well as Winthrop Heritage and all of their staff, for the exceptional care and support received by Roger and his family. We will forever be grateful.
A private service will be held for family and friends. To share memories and condolences with the family, please go to: http://roger.smith.muchloved.com/frame.aspx
