Ronald R. "Ron" LaPointe
1944 - 2017
SIDNEY - Ronald R. "Ron" LaPointe, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home with his wife by his side on the morning of May 6, 2017. Ron was born on May 17, 1944 to Roland and Germaine (Fleury) LaPointe of Winthrop.
He graduated from Winthrop schools.
He joined the United States Army and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division.
Ron was a proud member and past President of the Calumet Club. He also served on many committees within the club.
He was a proud recipient of a set of lungs in March 2011 and was forever grateful to his donor family.
Ron is survived by his wife 21 years, Linda (Bumford) LaPointe of Sidney; a son, Stephen LaPointe and his wife Danielle of Gardiner, two daughters, Lisa Rivers and her husband Sean of Winthrop and Julie Cameron and her husband Craig of Augusta; his sister, Joan Wing of Winthrop; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, "adopted" children, Scott Getchell and his wife Katy and Holly Plourde and her husband Charlie; as well as many nieces, nephews; cousins and close friends.
Relatives and friends may visit from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 4 p.m. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Following cremation, burial with military honors will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
