Scott Jaynes Obituary

PITTSFIELD -- Scott Jaynes, 45, died at home Jan. 3, 2007, after a five month battle with esophageal cancer.

Scott was born Sept. 11, 1961, in Syracuse, N.Y., to William and Dorothy (Drumm) Jaynes. He graduated from Baker High School, Baldwinsville, N.Y., in 1979. He enlisted in the Navy upon graduation and served 12 years. He received a good conduct discharge in 1992 as a Boatswain's mate 1st Class. Most of those 12 years were spent in Virginia Beach, Va. He was stationed in Holy Lock, Scotland, for one tour, and was deployed on various ships throughout his naval career. He met his wife while they were both serving an ACB-2 in Little Creek, Va. Scott was a den leader for Boy Scout Pack No. 428 in Pittsfield, volunteered with the Pittsfield Community Little League, and was a member of the Driftbusters Snowmobile Club in Pittsfield. Three years ago Scott found the job of his dreams. He started working as a substitute teacher. He was then hired as an Ed-Tech at the Vickery School in Pittsfield.

Scott enjoyed summers at Stetson shores. You would find him out in his boat fishing as the sun was coming up. Dutch oven cooking was his summer specialty. Every Sunday was spent having popcorn and watching the Nascar races. He loved lots of snow so he could take his son, Chad snowmobiling and ice skating. He also liked to take Chad on ATV trips.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cynthia J. (Burr) Jaynes and their son, Chad P. Jaynes, both of Pittsfield; Scott's son, Shawn Barker of Syracuse, N.Y., his father, William Jaynes of Pittsfield; cousin, Jerry Jaynes and his wife, Maureen, of Syracuse, N.Y.; mother-in-law, Linda Lougee and her husband, George, of Newport; father-in-law, Lawrence Burr and wife Faith of Norfolk, Mass.; sister-in-law, Amanda Burr of Norfolk; brother-in-law, L. Robert Burr of Newport; nieces, Maggie of Hartland, Emma and Allison Burr and a very special nephew, Patrick Burr, all of Newport; special friends, Shelley, Mike and Nick DeMilia of Sterling, Mass.

He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy, on Oct. 26, 2005.

The students and staff at Vickery School will sadly miss him.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. A celebration of Scott's life will be held at10 a.m. Saturday, at Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove St., Newport, with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scott Jaynes Memorial Fund, c/o Crosby & Neal, which will be used for music in the SAD 53 school system. The family wants Scott's love of music to live on. Those who wish may sign an on-line register at http://www.CrosbyNeal.com
