Walter Bradeen Obituary

UNITY -- Jack Bradeen of Unity passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2006.

He was born in Waterville on March 12, 1947, the son of Walter and Velma (Tyler) Bradeen.

He was part of the first graduating class of Mount View High School in 1965. Jack was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Navy from 1965 to 1969. He then went on to pursue an electrical degree from Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, graduating in 1971.

In 1972 he married the former Nancy Porter of Thorndike.

He began employment with Central Maine Power Company in Fairfield in 1971 and held the recent title of lead power technician, although he lead all to believe that he was the boss there and could not be replaced by anyone else in the company.

Jack was a member of the Masons No. 85 and was also a previous member of the Tri-County Car Club, having a great interest in restoring older vehicles.

He was very involved with his family, always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, especially his children. He would cancel any plans that he had if they needed him. He was also very close with his grandchildren, Collin and Jacob and loved spending time with them. He often took a Friday off from work just to do this.

He was predeceased by his father, Walter Bradeen and his sister, Susan Bradeen.

Survivors include his spouse, Nancy Bradeen; his children, Allison Peckham and spouse, Frank, and Aaron Bradeen and fiancŽ, Kim Mehuren; his mother, Velma Bradeen; brothers, Leroy Bradeen and spouse, Sonja (Tweety), and Rodney Bradeen and spouse, Ann (Oliver); his sister, Sylvia Lowry; his special grandchildren, Jacob and Collin Peckham; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, at Lawry Brothers Memorial and Remembrance Centre (Unity Performing Arts Building), 42 Depot St., Unity. Private burial will be at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to The Jack Bradeen Scholarship Fund, c/o Bangor Savings Bank, P.O. Box 670, Unity, ME 04988.

Dear Nancy and family,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss but just think of it as you have not "lost" Jack...you are now sharing him with God. I know it is hard. I was in your shoes a little over 3 years ago when I too lost my dear husband. People don't know the right words to say but just knowing they care gives comfort.

I know it will take some time for the shock to wear off a bit but if there comes a time when you would like to have someone to talk to...and I mean day or night..please feel free to call me. 568-3742 I had many sleepless nights and would have liked someone just to talk to. It does help.

You hang in there..just take one day at a time, or an hour or even one minute. You are not alone.

God Bless you Nancy. Jack was a lucky man and very blessed to have so many wonderful people in his life. Jack was a classmate of mine and I too remember very well his smile. You will be in my prayers.

To the Bradeen family, please accept my deepest sympathies.

I had only met Jack a couple of time. But, have talk to him many times at work. I had always found Jack to be UP, never down. And had a great sense of humer. The news that I received last Wednesday, when I came to work was a shock. I will miss working with Jack, he always made the day a little brighter.

May we all remember "Happy Jack" as the great guy that he was. I will always think of Jack as the guy who always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He was the type of person that one always looked forward to seeing around town simply because he was always laughing and joking with the many friends he would meet along the way.

I remember growing up around the corner from the Bradeens and as a little kid always admired Jack, Rodney, and Roy's constantly changing collection of hot rods and fast cars.

As a Brother Mason I know that Jack is now sitting at the right hand of God, the Supreme Architect of the Universe, and probably telling Him a joke or two also.

Farewell friend, you will be missed.
