William Tibbetts Obituary

William Sewall Tibbetts Sr.
1933 - 2017
AUGUSTA - William (Bill) Sewall Tibbetts Sr., born in Gardiner, Feb. 25, 1933, passed away Sept. 27, 2017, at Togus Springs Hospice with his loving wife and family by his side.
William was educated in the Gardiner School System. Upon graduating he entered the US Navy. He was stationed at Littlecreek, Va. during the Korean War. Bill had many fond memories of his service and was proud to serve his country. His rank was MM3 and he earned an honorable discharge. With the training he received from the military he worked as a boiler operator at Togus where he retired after 30 years of service. Bill continued to work part time for the Pharm Corp for an additional 16 years.
As a young boy Bill's first job was delivering newspaper for the KJ. He loved to tell stories of delivering the paper on foot until he earned enough money to purchase his first bicycle. He also had fond memories of the day WWII ended and delivering a special edition paper.
Bill loved his Dunkin Donuts times; he would sit and have conversations with friends and acquaintances. Bill had motorcycles most of his adult life and truly enjoyed taking day trips with his friends. He also enjoyed Gardiner High football, trips to the beach, cross country skiing and enjoyed travelling with family to places such as Florida, Georgia, all New England States and he especially enjoyed Pennsylvania Amish country.
Bill became a member of Christian Life Fellowship where he made many new friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Charles M. Tibbetts Sr. and Miriam McCormick Tibbetts; brothers, Lawrence Sr. and Charles Jr.; two daughters, Sandra Morgan and Holly Lamiette; his in-laws Shirley and Etta Kelley; and a sister-in-law Betty Merchant.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 year Ardis M. (Kelley) Tibbetts; a son William Jr., two daughters Laurie Stevens and her husband Todd and Wendy Westerlund and her husband Jon; seven grandchildren Joshua Tobias, Zachary Tobias and wife Jonsy, Kayla Stevens and husband Joshua, Steven Goudreau, Sami Goudreau, Bruce Morgan II, Brandon Morgan; three dearly loved great-grandchildren, Amelia, Ryan and Ava. Bill also leaves behind two sister-in-laws Meade and Debbie Tibbetts and his brother-in-law Arnold Kelley. Bill loved his cats - they were his animal family: Bob, Billy, Brady and Layla.
Visiting will be Monday Oct. 2, 4-7 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner. A funeral service will take place Tuesday Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. at Christian Life Fellowship Rt. 17 in Chelsea. Military Honors will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner. A very special thank you to the Togus Veterans staff Bldg 207 for their care and compassion.

Dear Mrs. Tibbits, when I came back from Fla. I heard the news. I ran downstairs but I was too late to see any of you. My heart goes out to you and your family. I'm very sad that I couldn't say my good byes. He was such a wonderful man and I'm so blessed that I could be there to help support the both of you. I know these are sad times but try to keep in mind with your faith that he is in a beautiful place where we will see him again and he doesn't have to struggle with such a devastating disease anymore. All my love to you and know that God will be with you through these trying times. This is Amy from Togus. Take care my sister in Christ!!
