Adrien Boucher Obituary

Adrien J.
Boucher, Jr., 76
SOUTH PORTLAND - Adrien J. Boucher, Jr., 76, of South Portland and New York City, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer and COPD.
The funeral will be Wednesday, April 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford. The Wake will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28.
Boucher, called "Butch" by family and friends, was born March 30, 1939, the third child and first son of Elinor Angelina Waters and Adrien J. Boucher, Sr. in Saco. In 1958, he graduated from the all male St. Louis High School in Biddeford.
Boucher had a variety of part-time jobs while in High School, including work for M.H. Fishman Department Store in Biddeford where he became a management trainee in 1958 upon graduation from High School.
Boucher fulfilled his military obligation with the US Army Reserves from 1957-1963. He performed six months of active duty in 1958 while on leave of absence from M.H. Fishman, was on active reserve duty for three and a half years, and was on stand-by reserve for two more years, all with the US Army 871st Ordnance Division in Saco.
In 1960, Boucher left M.H. Fishman and worked for the Saco Defense Company until 1963, assembling machine guns using the ordinance training he received in the US Army Reserves.
In 1963, Boucher joined MET Life Insurance Company in Biddeford, where he worked until he retired in 1997 with 34 years of service. He began his MET Life career as a Debit Agent; he later held positions as Account Representative, Senior Account Representative, and Senior Registered Account Representative selling equity products.
On June 4, 1960, he married Jacqueline Guay. The couple had five children before the marriage ended in 1994. Boucher had a 10-year relationship with Barbara Reidman Traynor, who died in 2006. He married Catherine Hillen Grega of New York City in 2008. With her son Dion, they maintained residences in both South Portland and New York City.
Throughout his life, Boucher worked and played with energy, enthusiasm, and determination. He loved to work with his hands and always had a construction project underway for himself, his family and friends, or for clients of his part-time business after he retired from MET Life. An avid golfer and racquetball player, he loved all sports both as a participant and as a spectator.
Among his priorities, family was first. He treasured time and experiences with his children and delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was active in the Parent Teacher Association of St. Andre's Elementary School in Biddeford and coached the Biddeford High School broom ball team. Boucher especially enjoyed volunteering at his eldest grandson's school – Mildred L. Day Elementary School – where he provided reading support and assisted the shop teacher in helping students build their own bird houses.
Boucher is survived by his wife Catherine and six children: Michael and his wife Pam Petrin of Arundel, Dennis of Waterboro, Brian and his wife Sue Champagne of Biddeford, Karen and her husband Dan Albert of Biddeford, Tim of Portland, and Dion G. Grega of New York City. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are: Derek, who is also Boucher's godson; Maria and her husband Fabian D'Atri; Hannah; Travis and his partner, Katerina Taylor; Brooke; Corrine and her husband, Brent Smith; Katherine; Tyler Albert and his wife Julianna Palmatessa; Mariah Albert and her fiancé D.J. Shannon. His great-grandchildren are Blake Smith and London Boucher. Boucher is also survived by his sisters Adrienne Gendron of Biddeford, Rachel Sewell of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Elizabeth Slozac of Kennebunk. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John.
