Armand Grenier

Armand Grenier, 89 BIDDEFORD -- Armand Grenier, 89, formerly of Saco, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford after a long illness. He was born in Biddeford on Oct. 13, 1919, the son of Lucien and Anna Collette Grenier and was educated in Biddeford schools. Mr. Grenier worked construction with his uncles as a young man. He then served with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves before moving to the San Francisco, Calif. area where he worked at the U.S. Naval Shipyard. On Dec. 31, 1947, he married Dorothy Giammarino in St. James Church in San Francisco, Calif. He and his wife moved back to the local area in 1948. Here he worked 26 years with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard retiring in 1974. He continued, through the years to work carpentry, the trade he learned as a young man, building and remodeling. Armand was a member of the Biddeford-Saco Elks. He was a former member of Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Surviving are his wife of 61 years of Kennebunk; three sons, Armand J. Grenier of Arizona, Wayne R. Grenier of Ossippee, N.H., Donald L. Grenier and his wife Susan of Kennebunk, two daughters, Robyn Packard and her husband Stephen of Renfrew, Pa., Claudia Grandy and her husband Keith of Saco; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at St. Martha's Church of the Holy Spirit Parish in Kennebunk. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Biddeford.
