Barbara Luccock Obituary

Barbara T. Luccock, 94 FALMOUTH -- Barbara Luccock passed away at Falmouth House on Dec. 9, 2008. She was born in Rowley, Mass., on Oct. 11, 1914, the daughter of Everett and Laura Follansbee. Barbara attended school in Newburyport, Mass., graduated from Newburyport High School in 1933 and Wheaton College, Norton Mass., in 1937. Following college she taught English at Lawrence High School, Falmouth, Mass., until marrying her husband, The Rev. Doctor Robert Luccock on Aug. 3, 1946. Barbara and her husband served two churches in Northport, N.Y. and New Haven, Conn., from 1946-1962. In 1962 the Luccock's moved to Wellesley, Mass., when Dr. Luccock took a position on the faculty of Boston University School of Theology. Barbara became very involved in her Wellesley community as an active member and secretary of her garden club for eight years, a member of the women's club and the antiques chairperson for the Wellesley Congregational Church's rummage sale for a number of years. She loved vacationing in York Beach and Boothbay Harbor with her family before moving to Ocean View Retirement Community permanently in 2002. Her family and friends were the most important part of her life though and she will be remembered for always baking cookies for someone in trouble, ill or lonely. Barbara's other hobbies included knitting, gardening, traveling and reading. Barbara was predeceased by her husband in 2007. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Isler and her husband Robert of Falmouth, a daughter, Nancy Strong and her husband Michael of Wellesley, Mass.; a grandson, Jim Isler and his wife Emily of NYC, a grandson, Tom Isler, also of NYC; a brother Dudley Follansbee and his wife Marge of South Harpswell; and a sister-in-law, Marietta Phillips of Falmouth. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff of Falmouth House at Ocean View for their loving care and support, as well as Beacon Hospice for their compassionate end of life care A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Wellesley Congregational Church in Wellesley, Mass., with a private burial to follow in Newburyport, Mass. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., in Portland. Dear Mrs. Luccock was so cheerful and happy every time I saw her. I remember her enthusiasm and joy. My heartfelt sympathy to Susan and Nancy and their dear family members.
